Now that all timezones are officially well within 2016, I wanted to wish all of you a very happy new year! It’s been a mere three days, but I’m already feeling like I’m in a more positive place than I’ve been in most recent years. I realise this is nothing to do with the clock chiming midnight on 1st January, but I still think it’s a good way to kick off the year!
I won’t be making any resolutions, as I mentioned in my post last year starting off 2015. However, I already had a lot of plans for the year which I plan to achieve, so I’ll be sharing those with you instead!
To start the year off in a very exciting way, we will be heading off on a massive adventure in South Africa in a few weeks! We will be visiting T’s family, many of whom he hasn’t seen in over 15 years, in Durban then visiting my two close friends Lu and Alex for a few days. After that, we will fly to Cape Town to celebrate my birthday and meeting up with the rest of T’s family who are flying over from Northern Ireland. At that point, we will start our drive up along the garden route visiting lots of sights, including big cat sanctuaries, horse-riding, and wine-tasting along the way. Finally, we will close our trip with a week for just T and I to chill out in a nice hotel on the beach, having a real holiday experience as just the two of us. I will be mostly off the grid for the three-and-a-half weeks, but I will be taking lots of photos to share with all of you!
Shortly after we get back, we will be seeing Sabaton in concert, which I’m pretty excited about after discovering them earlier last year.
It looks like I will also be attending some gaming conventions throughout the year with friends, which is great news for me because I’ve only ever worked conventions in recent memory. It’ll be great to go to a convention and be able to really enjoy it as a gamer.
Throughout the year, I plan to make some big changes to my life. Again, this is nothing to do with new year resolutions, but is something that has been on my mind for a while. Most of them are personal changes that I want to make, including things like continuing on my health and fitness journey and dealing with some mental hang-ups I have and want to improve upon, however I am going to be working a lot on improving my gaming, writing, and streaming life. I hope that by mid next year I’ll have been able to bring all the wonderful changes I want to for streaming, and that those of you who watch will like what I’ve managed to achieve!
However, it’s not all just looking ahead. I was reflecting today that 2015 was a good year, even if it was tough. I worked my ass off, and I made a lot of progress at work. I achieved my goal of increasing my streaming schedule and have met some amazing people through it, with the amazing and supportive Elite: Dangerous community being one of the happiest things I encountered.
I travelled a lot, in some cases completely alone, and visited beautiful cities such as Madrid and Berlin for the first time, as well as having a pleasant holiday in Tenerife and travelling to visit my best friend (known online as girlDOTexe!) to celebrate New Year’s Eve in true nerdy style — by ordering pizza and playing GameCube games!
While I’m not at all a social butterfly, I made a real effort to come out of my shell and played games with new people, developing new friendships and improving old ones. This may seem like a cop-out to some people, but it’s done a lot for my happiness to know that I have people I can have a good time with, as I’ve historically relied on one or two people who frankly weren’t very good for me. I can honestly say I’m in a very good place!
I hope you all have a wonderful year ahead of you, and regardless of how good or bad your 2015 is, I am proud of you for getting through it and seeing the beginning of 2016. May it be a wonderful one!
